From a Beatle who rocked the world to an idealist who shook America.
Last December 26, 2007 while visiting my in-laws in Sta. Rosa Laguna, I bought my latest addition to my Beatles collections – a VCD about John Lennon titled “The U.S. vs. John Lennon“.
The U.S. versus John Lennon is the story of one superstar’s dream of a better world and his fight to be heard. The film features a large and diverse array of the era’s notable figures, men and women who bear immediate and authoritative witness to specific events.
At first, I thought that this VCD is a collection of John Lennon home videos that documents his stay and struggles in New York/US. Then I found out that it is indeed a documentary but with interviews from the authoritative persons who knew the happenings of those times.
This movie completely supplements the book I’m currently reading – “The Man Who Killed John Lennon“. It is about the early opposition of Lennon to the US Government (or Nixon’s Government). From their his first stand about the Vietnam War (when he was still a Beatle), to the court room battles fighting for his citizenship, to his death.
Just like what is stated on the CD cover, the movie features many well-known men and women who are first hand witnesses to all the events that happened. Among them are African-American political activists Angela Davis and Bobby Seale, former New York Governor Mario Cuomo, three-term Senator and Democratic Presidential candidate George McGovern and others.
Hey, I have a Beatles Online Store here that you may find worth visiting. I personally have all of the items displayed there. Though I haven’t added this US vs John Lennon VCD to the collection yet, there are stuffs there that you can buy. Check it out and start appreciating the music and legacy of The Beatles!
Mabuhay!
