In case you haven’t noticed, there’s a loud buzz - big bang, if you would - on the blog world right now about Google penalizing blogs that are selling text links or are full of sponsored posts.
I’ve been asking myself why my PR dropped from PR4 to PR3 last August and I think, most probably that these are the cause.
Here some reasons why Google penalize a blog and thus decreasing its Page Rank - if not removing it from their index.
- Posting Duplicate Content
- Keyword Stuffing
- Selling Text Links Ads
- and others… Please share…

(buy the mug! :) Anyone noticed that it has been Google here and Google there on Everything Eli? From their supposedly July Page Rank update to today’s Google Really Hates Duplicate Posts. Yeah, I noticed it too since their 9th Birthday. It is not intentional… Or maybe I’m just being kissing Google’s ass for some attention and better ranking? :)
Anyway with Google buying Jaiku, here are the (complete) list of Google Sites or Services.

I have a Sysadmin blog under everything-eli dot com domain for some time now where I post things that are happening at work. If you go there (please don’t) it’s not been updated recently. (If you want to, this is my sysadmin blog. :))
The primary use of that piece of shit site it to try out modified Wordpress layouts that I find cool and interesting and also the place to test Adsense/Bidvertiser ad placements.
It is also this site that may have caused a page rank drop on my inmylife blog.
Why?
Because Google Hates Duplicate Contents Read the rest of this entry »

Trying to go with the flow here… Soon everyone will talk about it, WidgetBucks! Here’s another way of monetizing you blog.
Widgetbucks is like any other widget you put on you Wordpress sidebar. BUT WAIT! When you loyal reader (me), visit your blog and click on the product the widget is displaying and visits the advertiser’s page… YOU MAKE MONEY! Hey, did I make that bold enough for you to notice?
You get paid for every click your reader makes on your chosen widget.
If you want to know how these widgets looks like, check out my left sidebar. Yep. you wont see Blogrush there anymore.. :)
Sign Up And Get $25
Dude, signing up is so easy and fast! You’ll only need to put in your email and password… That’s it! It will only take you less than a minute (Assuming you’re a fast typist, if not.. hey, ask for help).
Minimum payout for Widgetbucks is $50 dollars compared to Adsense’s $100. And more good news, if you sign up you’ll get your first $25 now! So you only need to earn $25 in order to receive you first $50 check (or paypal)!
Affiliates
Aside from readers-clicking-your-widget way of earning money, you can also earn some more by referring others to sign up. (So sign up! :) You can have some buttons and banner for you blog. One thin I noticed is that most of it has dull green colors that I doubt will fit nicely on your blog. See Pinoybanda for example.. Ugly! Yuck! (hey, come on, I’m being honest here)
And since we’re being honest here, for Everything Dash Eli dot Com, I love WidgetBucks than Google Adsense. Why? Because Adsense doesn’t like Everything-Eli.

Hey, why didn’t anybody told me that Google just celebrated its birthday a few days back? Well, the official date, as per wikipedia is September 7, 1998:
Google was co-founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while they were students at Stanford University and the company was first incorporated as a privately held company on September 7, 1998.
But there was a special logo that was displayed last September 27, 2007 so I guess that probably marks Google’s 9th year. Here’s what the logo looked like in case you didn’t noticed it:

So, Happy Birthday Google! You can invite me anytime if you have a post-birthday celebration party of some sort! :)
Oh by the way, if you’re curios of what Google index page looked like in 1997 and 1998 here they are respectively:

This is related to pagerank 4 to pagerank2 post I did few months back. Can’t find the link from archives, sorry.
While checking my archives and old posts on this blog, I found a post about Sun Solaris Keyboard - on how to disable the Stop A key combination. It then hit me… I was pretty sure, I have that same post before. So I head over Sysadmin blog and look for the post, I found nothing!
But I didn’t stop there. I remembered that before that blog, I used to have a subdomain for the stuff I do at work - http://everything-eli.com/sysadminblog, and alas! There it was! The same exact post! (But there not the same anymore, since I changed the one in here.)
I did not only change the content but the permanent link as well.
From,
http://www.everything-eli.com/inmylife/disabling-sun-keyboard-abort-sequence/
to,
http://www.everything-eli.com/inmylife/stop-stop-a-on-sun-sparc-keyboards/
There, let see if that fix something…

The official blog of Google mentioned that their system is being powered by Linux. “You’ll often hear members of our open source team say, ‘Every time you use Google, you’re using Linux.’ It’s absolutely true.”
Well imagine that, I thought that only Yahoo is powered by Linux, apparently so does Google.
This is further verified when they stated that (every) Google engineer’s workstation runs some variant of Linux. Even the search result when you do a query on the search engine, those are brought to you by Linux.
Since I, myself is an Open-Source advocate, if Google uses Linux, let’s all do it! :D
